HAND IMAGE
Technology Palm Scan
Technology of recognition through the
reading of the lines, wrinkles of the
palm's skin which create a unique pattern
and so identify the people without any
error.
The Palm Scan's technology offers the
following a dvantages compared to other
biometric Technologies:
Insignificant ratio of false
rejection (FRR: False Rejection Rate:
when the system does not recognize a registered
user). The Palmscan system receives biometric
information from a body part (the hand's
palm) which maintains constantly and without
any changes parametered information. Unlike
the fingerprint, the caracteristics of
the palm can not be erased, dirty or damaged.
Therefore, the level of “no-recognition” is
below 0.2 % of the punches realized.
No false acceptancy: (FAR:
False Acceptancy Rate: when the system
mismatches with another user). The palm's
skin has some caracteristics different
for each person. Those caracteristics
are due to the “erosion” of the embryo's
skin during the pregnancy, so there is
no genetic match. Information from the
palm is between 30 or 100 times more important
that information obtained from a fingerprint's
scanner and is also more important than
information from other biometric device:
Iris, face…
The amount of information
used for the biometric identification
is very important when it's to avoid errors.
For example: recognize a city from a
street (minimum information) or from a
bridge, where the city can be divided
in areas. The second option offers better
probabilities for a correct recognition.
Contact Less technology:
the palm is not in contact with the scanner:
minimum maintenance and a maximum of hygiene
= maximum reliability.
One of the worst difficulties of some
of the biometric methods is the usury
and amount of dirtiness in the biometric
scanner that can generate false rejections
and also false acceptations. In our case,
the scanner can not be used-up because
it is not directly in contact with users
and does not need the maintenance that
other biometric scanners do.

HAND'S VEINS
Palm Secure Technology
Technology developped by FUJITSU which
captures the image of the hand's veins
through the reflection of nearly-infrared
rays emitted by the terminal. This makes
it a system of authentification highly
secure because it requires a blood circulation
for his functioning.
The palm Secure technology has the following
advantages compared to other biometric
Technologies:
Insignificant ratio of false
rejection (FRR: False Rejection Rate:
when the system does not recognize a registered
user).
Palm Secure reads the interior of the
body (the hand's veins) to realize the
biometric identification. So, the recognition
will be realized aside from external changes
of a person (dirtiness, injuries, increase
of downy hairs, tattoos …)
No false acceptancy: (FAR:
False Acceptancy Rate: when the system
mismatches with another user).
Palm Secure is an extremely secure system,
since the biometric data (the veins) can
not be captured the same way as they can
be with other biometric technologies (technique
known as “spoofing”, which supplants the
identity with the copy of biometric caracteristics,
like the creation of false fingerprints,
use of lenses…). Moreover, because the
Palm Secure system only works with hands
with blood circulation, cutting someone's
hand will not allow the access.
Contact Less technology:
the palm is not in contact with the scanner:
minimum maintenance and a maximum of hygiene
= maximum reliability.
One of the worst difficulties of some
of the biometric methods is the usury
and the amount of dirtiness in the biometric
scanner that can generate false rejections
and also false acceptations. In our case,

it is not directly in contact with other
biometric scanners.

FINGERPRINT+CARD
Technology Smart Bio
Technology which combines finger print
recognition with a “Smart Card” reader,
which guarantees a complete privacy of
the user's biometric data because the
identification process of the fingerprint
is realised without any need of stocking
the fingerprint in a database.
The user's fingerprint is encrypted in
the Smart Card that every user has. To
use the biometric identification, the
user introduces the card in the Terminal
and puts its fingerprint in the scanner,
producing an immediate identification
in the terminal without keeping the fingerprint
in any device apart from the Smart Card.
The protection of the information is
complete because the cards Smart Card
which keep the fingerprints – register
2 fingerprints each employee – it incorporates
a high level of encrypting set up by the
DES (Digital Encryption Standard) and
MAC (Message Authentication Capability).
So, in case of losing or having the card
stolen, it would be impossible to use
the card by another or application.
In addition to the advantage linked to
the privacy of the biometric data, there
are more advantages to emphasize:
- A verification (1:1) of the identity
is realized: the fingerprint which is
introduced in the scanner is the same
as the one stocked in the card.
It means that the identification (in
this case verification) will be faster
than when the identification is from one
to several (1:N) and will reduce the risk
of FAR to 0.
- Scalability of the system: able the
increase of the number of terminals and
of the users per terminal without any
limitation.

FINGERPRINT
As we highlighted before, compared
to other Biometric Technologies, the
fingerprint has some advantages and
disadvantages:
Avantages to
highlight :
Low price
Easy to use (the user needs
to be familiar with this technology)
Disadvantages:
- High level of FRR (False Rejection
Rate = 1% to 2%)
- Possibility of FAR (especially with
techniques like “Spoofing”.)
- Need to be maintained (cleaning of
the lense), and sensibility of the sensor
S.O.T. relies on the Fingerprint technology,
currently the safest on the market, which
mostly eliminates the disadvantages linked
to the biometry through fingerprint.
Technology LE (Light Emitting) Sensor of Bio-I
The technology LE is the new technology
which beats noticeably the technologies
of fingerprint's reading which currently
exist.
The sensor LE reacts when the fingerprint
is in contact with the scanner emitting
luminescence. The fingerprint being the
only part in contact with the sensor and
emitting light, its curbs form a diagram.
1. Unlike the optical reader, or “swipe”,
the LE sensor, generates the exact image
of the fingerprint, never mind the fingerprint
being dirty or painted. In that way,
it avoids the false rejections.
2. Includes the LFD technology (Life
Finger Detection), which distinguishes
the real fingerprint and its image. It's
not possible to mislead the sensor using
a graphic image of the fingerprint (because
the fingerprint's curbs, which activate
the sensor, are missing), or using inorganic
materials (because these materials lack
of conductivity which generates the luminescence
needed).
3. Low level of FRR due to a highly developed
algorithm to capture dried or moist Fingerprints.
4. Unlike the optical, swipe sensor or
capacitive lectors (semiconductor), the
LE sensor, is extremely resistant and
does not require maintain or cleaning.
The identification is not realised through
the capture of an image and the sensor
is immune from any effect (sweating, grated
rind) which could mislead both fingerprint
and sensor and can affect the identification
and increase the FRR.
5. Consequence of the previous point
is that the average life of the LE sensor
is 1.5 millions of “users”. Unlike other
technologies, the image is perfectly clear
from the first use to the last one, 1.5
millions times later.
